What This is All About
The Master Lists of Complications (formerly known as the Master Lists of Limitations) is a resource for players of Hero System games. While every player of the Hero System knows all about Distinctive Features and Physical, Psychological, and Social Complications, sometimes it can be a pain in the rear to actually come up with something appropriate.

With the Master Lists, all a player or GM need do is seach around and pick the Limitations he likes.

As can be seen from the change in title, the Master Lists are now Hero System 6th Edition compliant.

Origins of the Master Lists
The original Master List, the Master List of Psychological Limitations, was conceived and started by a guy named Chris Maka. Unfortunately, he not only never finished the list, he disappeared almost completely from the Internet shortly after starting it. Jack Butler found Mr. Maka's nascent list and decided it was too good a resource to just let die. After fruitlessly trying to contact Mr. Maka, Jack decided to go ahead and complete the list on his own, and hoped that if Chris Maka ever came across his work, he'd understand Jack's motivations and not get angry about it.

Jack began finishing the descriptions of the various Limitations, and soon had attracted the interest (and assistance) of several other people, all of whom were Hero Games enthusiasts. It took us close to two years to complete the list of Psychological Limitations. When they were done, it just seemed natural to then add a database of Physical and Social Limitations, so the group did that too. That added another two years to the project. Lastly, someone on the Hero Games forums asked about a database of Distinctive Features, and since that seemed to be a good idea, the group went ahead and added that.

(The list of Distinctive Features is actually still being worked on. Sorry about that.)

Since then, thousands of people have made use of these lists. Feel free to do the same. If you can think of anything that should be on this list that isn't, go ahead and add it!

As a postscript, Chris Maka contacted Jack Butler and said that he was glad someone finished the list. Always nice to be told you're doing a good job.

Prior Versions
For a short while, these lists were hosted by Gordon Feiner over on his Cellular Smoke Signals website (an older, no-longer-updated edition of these lists still exists there, for those who want a blast from the past), and then later by Alesia Matson over on the now defunct Lost Coast Gaming website. The Master Lists most recent home was on China Pittenger's Next Gen RPG site.

Our thanks go out to China, Alesia and Gordon for their support when we needed it.
